Privacy
Last updated: August 17, 2026
The short version: Common shows you what's happening near you, and that's all it wants to know about you. No ads, no data sales, no tracking across the internet, no precise locations. Most privacy policies are long because the company does a lot with your data. This one is short because we don't.
Who we are
Common is made by Solid Ground, a division of Wild Forest Inc., in Canada. When this policy says "we," that's who it means. You can reach us any time at hello@getcommon.ca.
This website
getcommon.ca is a static page. We run no analytics, set no cookies, and show no ads. Two things happen technically when you visit:
- The site is hosted on GitHub Pages, so GitHub's servers see the standard request data any web server sees (your IP address, browser type). GitHub's own privacy statement governs those logs.
- The site loads its typeface from Google Fonts, which means Google's servers see your IP address when they deliver the font file. Nothing else is shared with Google.
The app
The Common app isn't released yet. When it is, this is the deal it will launch with:
- Your account is your name, an optional photo, and the Apple, Google, or phone-number sign-in you chose. No email required, no username, no password stored by us.
- Your location is approximate by design. Common works on neighbourhoods, not addresses. We store which neighbourhood areas you've added — never your precise coordinates, home address, or a movement history.
- Your activity is the bubbles you create or join and the people you've added. Bubbles are temporary by nature — when one pops, it's over; it doesn't become a profile of you.
- Notifications need a device token so your phone can receive them. That token identifies your device, not your whereabouts.
And what the app will never do:
- No advertising, and no selling or renting your information to anyone.
- No tracking you across other apps or websites.
- No feed, no likes, no followers — so there is no engagement data to optimize, which is exactly how we like it.
- No messages. Common has no chat, so there are no conversations for anyone to store, moderate, or leak.
- Nobody is notified when you add someone or when someone adds you to a group. Blocking someone is silent — they are never told.
Your rights
We operate under Canada's federal privacy law (PIPEDA). You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or delete it entirely. Account deletion will be available directly inside the app — no email required, no retention tricks — and deleting your account deletes your data.
Children
Common is not directed at children. The app will require users to be old enough to hold the Apple or Google account they sign in with, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so plainly on this page and in the app — not bury it in a changelog. The "last updated" date at the top always tells you when it last moved.
